Every word is looked up in a pronunciation dictionary before it is compared, so two words that rhyme by ear and not by eye still find each other.
Pronunciation first.
Each word is looked up in the CMU pronouncing dictionary before it is compared, so "laughter" meets "master" and "through" meets "blue", whatever the letters say.
Slant rhyme counts.
A pair scores on its last stressed vowel and everything after it. A close vowel or one extra consonant still passes, so "verse" and "thirst" share a colour, and so do "love" and "enough".
The syllable, not the word.
Only the tail that rhymes is coloured. "Comprehend" lights up as "hend"; "steady" and "ready" light up whole. Internal rhymes are found too, and a word mid-line needs a cleaner match than the last word, so the sheet stays readable.
Six lines of memory.
Rhymes are matched within six lines of each other inside a section, about as far as an ear carries a sound. A verse and the chorus after it do not colour each other.
You have the last word.
Alt+click two words and they rhyme, whatever the dictionary says. Alt+click a word twice and it drops out. Marks are saved with the draft.
Other languages, roughly.
A word the dictionary does not know is matched by its letters, so a verse in Spanish or Norwegian still lights up. Less precise than English, still useful.

What is a rhyme scheme?
A rhyme scheme is the pattern the end rhymes make. Lines that rhyme get the same letter: two rhyming pairs in a row is AABB, alternating lines is ABAB. The highlighter draws the pattern in colour instead, and it also catches the rhymes inside a line that letters never show.

Slant rhyme
Two words that share most of a sound and not all of it. "Love" and "enough" match on the vowel and end on different consonants; "home" and "stone" do the opposite. Most modern songwriting runs on slant rhyme, so the highlighter scores it, and a slant pair gets the same colour as a perfect one.

Internal rhyme
A rhyme inside a line rather than at its end, or between the middle of one line and the end of the next. It is what makes a verse feel fast without changing the tempo. Letters cannot show it; colour can.

Multisyllabic rhyme
A rhyme that runs across two or more syllables: "decision" with "precision". The colour covers the syllables that match, so you can see how long each rhyme is and where a two-syllable run falls back to one.

- Is it free?
- Yes. It is the rhyme engine from Lyriquee, our lyric plugin, running in your browser. No account, no limit, nothing to install.
- Do you keep my lyrics?
- No. Your draft is saved in this browser's local storage on this device, so it is here when you come back, and nothing is sent to us.
- A word is the wrong colour, or has none. Why?
- The dictionary covers most of English and misses some names, slang and spellings. Alt+click the word, then Alt+click the one it should rhyme with. Alt+click a word twice to take it out of the colouring.
- Does it work for rap?
- That is what it was built on. Slant rhymes and multis score, and internal rhymes are coloured, which is where most of a rap verse lives.
- Does it work in other languages?
- Roughly. A word the dictionary does not know is matched by its letters, so most languages written in a Latin alphabet light up, less precisely than English.
- Why are the colours not showing?
- The highlights use a browser feature that Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox all ship now. If you see no colour, update the browser, then open the Aa panel and check that Show rhymes is on.
- Can I use this while recording?
- Lyriquee puts this sheet inside FL Studio, Ableton and any VST3 host. The colours work the same, the lyrics save in the project, and the sheet scrolls with the song while you record.
